VTAC Popularity Poll Data

Each year the University Planning Office publishes analysis of the preference popularity poll data from the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC). This analysis consists mainly of first and total preferences. The Planning Office publishes this information 3 times for each cohort, based on the release cycle from VTAC as follows below.

In late October VTAC releases data for timely non-current year 12 applicants (after change of preference) and timely year 12 applicants (prior to change of preference). This is known as entry time 1.

In late December VTAC releases data for all non-current year 12 applicants after change of preference and year 12 applicants after change of preference (not including IB and WA applicants). This is known as entry time 3.

In early January VTAC releases final data for all applicants including IB and WA after change of preference. This is known as final data.

This data is available to University of Melbourne WWW users only and is available in Excel spreadheet format from October 2005 (PDF format prior to October 2005 and for all 12 preference data ).

Similar analysis is available from earlier polls from the year 2000. Contact the University Planning Office to access the earlier popularity polls data.
