Data source
The data for the Staff 2007 Dashboard was derived from the position charging report for 30 November 2007 made available by Human Resources. The datafile includes only full time and part time staff but no casuals.
This date was selected as it was assumed that the University would be at its highest staffing level at any given time during a calendar year. This would be a good representation of the staff cross-section for 2007. Note that this data is a snapshot of the staffing levels on 30 November 2007 and is not representative of the entire year of 2007.
Furthermore, this data will also enable a comparison to be made with the Professional staff Analysis Project data that was obtained during the same time period in 2006. Please visit the PSAP section of this website for further information.
The original position charging data file has been filtered to create the different views and levels of analysis presented here. An Excel spreadsheet version of the underlying data is available from UPO (Jan Dethlefs), or contact Human Resources for further information.
The dashboard is currently released in draft as the 2007 staff financial data where not available at the time of release. Updates will be made regularly as more data become available.
The UPO would like to request feedback on usability, appropriateness and accuracy from users of this dashboard to Jan Dethlefs.
How to use the dashboards
The dashboard shows data on faculty and departmental level on the same page to allow comparison of departments with their parent business unit. Please select a faculty and department from the menu on the right of the screen. In the case of faculties with only one department faculty and department graphs will display the same data.
Five different views for FTE data are available representing different cuts through the data file. All data can be displayed by HEW levels, by funding, by job name, activity, and as headcount (Job name and headcount views are only available on faculty level). Please select a view by highlighting the appropriate button below the faculty menu.
By moving the mouse pointer over a graph detailed information for each entry will be displayed.
HEW level view: The total FTFFTE for each level will be displayed for the chosen faculty and department.
Funding view: Total FTE will displayed split into project and operational funded positions sorted into fixed term and ongoing contracts. This view is only available on faculty level.
Jobname view: The FTE per job name as given in the position charging report are displayed on faculty and departmental level.
Activity view: Same as for job name view but split into activity codes.
Headcount view: Only available on faculty level showing the number of people with ongoing and fixed term contract per faculty.
